Fine Art Sails is the first-of-its-kind alliance between the communities of World Class Sailing and International Fine Art. The concept, conceived and founded by Michael Ross, creates an exhilarating and unprecedented “living gallery” of contemporary art. By commissioning renowned artists to create signature original artworks that are painted onto Star Class sails, Fine Art Sails bridges the previously disconnected worlds of Fine Art and Sailing.
Established after the hugely successful London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, Fine Art Sails is the primary legacy project highlighting the exceptional success of Team GB Medal Winners whilst supporting and promoting the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation.
The colourful spectacle of the art sails has drawn crowds to the Royal Victoria Dock at the London Boatshow and to the shores of the Solent during Cowes Week 2014.
Fine Art Sails is extremely grateful for the artworks created by artists including Samantha Cameron's favourite EINE, Julian Opie, Goldie, Christian Furr, Jamie Gili, INSA, Eley Kishimoto, Pam Glew, Wendy Taylor, and David Begbie.
Fine Art Sails is equally grateful to the exceptional Olympic and World Championship sailors who braved the bitter conditions on the Royal Victoria Dock for the London Boatshow and enjoyed the sunshine over the Solent at Cowes Week. Sailors have included Iain Percy OBE, Andrew Simpson MBE, Pippa Wilson MBE, and Xavier Rohart.
Exciting new artworks are now under way to add to the collection in 2015.
